When We Are Anxious

…do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
This goes out to any of my friends, family, neighbors, or sisters and brothers in Christ who may be dealing with great stress and pressure in your life.
How do we attain the peace of God that surpasses all understanding?
Just a partnership with God is how it really starts. A relationship, where you pray often, in supplication, and with thanksgiving. Sure, we get the praying part. But what about supplication do we need to know? I like to think of it as desperation. I am learning to do it now better than I use to. It used to be out of ‘desperation’ that I would pray a real prayer. One with supplication- as the Lord asks of us. The dictionary will define supplication as humble pleading. Yep, that covers it.
But, we do not need to wait until we are desperate to do this. In fact, God wants to respond to us with all prayer. So often we forget to even ask for what we want— simply unloading. Oh, that’s okay too. He can take it. AND, He knows where our heart is…but if we ask with deep desire, He will respond beyond all understanding. Oh, how I want this for us all.
Then there needs to be thanksgiving. This, I more recently, started doing too. It’s strange how we know to do these things. And we see it is written, but if we have never done it before, it’s just foreign.
We show great faith by thanking BEFORE we receive. Time works differently for us here in this world. God is here, now, tomorrow, eternity. If you have never tried to do this, praying with thanks before receiving, here is a sample.
As you say your prayer pleading for peace-keep the pleading in your heart and use words like…Oh, my dear Father who loves me far more than I even know how to love myself….I am so blessed to have YOU. You, who waits to hear my requests, who is eager to offer me strength, support, comfort, and yes peace just when I need. I do not even feel worthy Lord and yet at the same time I hear you say, ‘Indeed you are…you are my precious child, and I will answer your prayers for no other reason than because I love your wholly’. End by once again sharing your gratitude for His love and favor.
And wait expectantly 🙂
