To Be Silent and Listen

Now, it could be that my reading difficulties make this stand out a bit more to me. But, for years I have mixed up the words silent and listen. Many times I have to read a whole sentence before I can decipher one tricky word and these two words, being so similar, have stumped me for years.
Last Saturday I was trying to do my Bible reading, and my focus was simply off. It didn’t take long before I realized that my background Christian music was too loud. Although the music is wonderful, and it is even my routine to listen to it in the morning, on this day I just couldn’t hear the Holy Spirit stirring in me. On this day my heart, mind, and soul needed to be completely silent in order to listen.
Who among you will give ear to this, will attend and listen for the time to come? —Isaiah 42:23
And he said to them, “Pay attention to what you hear: with the measure you use, it will be measured to you, and still more will be added to you. —Mark 4:24
Today I post with encouragement for us all to fight for a little quiet time…
