The Thief of Joy

Comparison is the thief of joy –Theodore Roosevelt

I have a friend heading off to a new job this morning. I thought of her as I poured my first cup of coffee. She is in a wonderful opportunity but I thought about how hard it is to start something new when you are not- well, in your twenties anymore!!!

Stepping out on a new venture can be especially hard if we have it quite good where we are currently at. Following God-inspired nudges to ‘go and do’- regardless of what the world or yourself is telling you shows great faith. Keeping your focus on work that brings glory to God and not yourself is a key for not letting this new venture spoil the blessing of joy that you can receive by stepping out in faith and doing!

And the priest said to them, “Go in peace. The journey on which you go is under the eye of the LORD.” Judges 18:6 ESV

When we find ourselves with a little self-doubt, especially when heading out onto a new venture, consider where your focus is. Contrary to what we might think, it is often NOT by comparing ourselves to others that we may feel unqualified for new ventures… but rather it may be that we compare ourselves to perfection and exceedingly high standards, and then self-doubt sneaks in…. and robs our joy!

Let’s take today and truly consider how partnered with God our paths are. We need to keep our focus on serving God and his people, on calling out to Him (After all, this will provide us the truest opportunity to be AWESOME!) It is never the power of ourselves alone that will bring about the most amazing work.

Whatever is written in your heart today, keep your eyes on the Lord, your service properly directed, and the glory rightly given. By doing this…YOU WILL ACCOMPLISH GREAT THINGS.

SIT BACK, CALL UPON THE LORD, DO GOD’S WORK AND WITH THE MOST JOYFUL HEART LIFT UP THE GLORY TO HIM… FOR HIS CONNECTIONS, HIS TEACHING THAT GOT YOU WHERE YOU ARE AT, HIS CALLING THAT YOU HEARD, AND FOR THE SUPPORT YOU NEEDED TO TAKE LEAPS OF GREAT FAITH!!!!
