Taste and See…We can do that!

O taste and see that the LORD is good; How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him! Psalm 34:8

‘Taste and see’, just what exactly does that mean? To me this verse is talking about experiencing God and all the blessings that will come of that. We know the truth behind this because when we’re stuck dealing with a huge obstacle and then somehow the perfect relief arrives and wipes it all away…what words instinctively come out of our mouth?

“Oh, thank God.”

It isn’t an accident that so many gravitate to these words-our bodies understand that there is a higher power at hand when we simply have no control. I don’t even think it is slang we are using when these words fly off our tongue, but I do say….Let’s make it a little more deliberate. Let’s let this idea of God being the conductor of our life a little more affirming. Rather than a subconscious ‘Oh, thank God’ let’s make the awareness of His presence a little more deliberate.

Look at todays verse again. It encourages us to recognize Gods hands in our days so we can taste His presence and take refuge under Him. When we take all the credit- we get all the credit of OUR simple act. That’s a bummer….I’d like all the amazingness that comes from being partnered with God. I want Him to get the Glory, and I would like to be blessed by Him as I take refuge in all He is, has, and gives. It’s a choice-do everything on our own and reap the fruits of OUR labor…or do things partnered with God, gaining the fruits of our labor AND rewards of His blessings!

Today, invite God into even the small wonders and joys. Practice on little things and dare to give Him control over the big things…..that is where we will gain refuge, wisdom, and ALL God has to offers.

Today I say, “Welcome your Father into this wonderful Friday and take refuge under all He has to offer YOU!”
