How Do I Know God Will Protect Me?

Today’s ‘Taking Requests Tuesday’ will be on how we can know that God will protect us. The actual request came from and individual, who admitted she sometimes has trouble letting herself deeply believe that God would protect her and wondered if there is proof that could increase her confidence or understanding so she could wholeheartedly believe.

There are a few beautiful things about this request. One, she knows her level of belief (faith) is somehow correlated. Two, her mention of proof being a contributing factor in increasing her faith. I see the heart behind her words and know the difference between someone wanting to prove Christianity wrong saying ‘show me proof’, versus a God loving soul wanting to know more with hopes to feel more affirmed. We know sharing and hearing faith stories is an important part of our maturing faith, so her quest is not exactly a statement of unbelief. Her desire actually speaks volumes and brings two importance thoughts to my mind.

First, it is by faith that we choose God for our protection. Understanding the amount of protection and at what depth this protection will go will increase as our understanding does. However, choosing, even when we do not completely understand it’s depths, is the key. The second thing that I want us to think on is how important her desire to learn and know more is in this reassurance of God’s work in her life.

We can do a lot to increase our understanding of God’s mighty power. We can get into the Word and learn more of God’s great work. We can pray for the words to become living in us so they grow and take root. We can inquire of other Christians who will share their stories, this too will increase our understanding and insight. But rest assured, the desire to know more speak volumes to the Lord. Our faith grows just as our understanding grows.

Tonight I leave us with a couple thoughts. Let’s take any inquiry of our faith, God’s power, or our acceptance of God….to God, as this wise woman has. Let’s look to the Word and ask for it to live and grow in us. Let’s acknowledge the desire to know more and reach out to not just God but to other Christians as well trusting that their faith story could impress upon our mind a deepened level of faith as well… and let’s look at the Words of Psalm 91:4-7 to see just how affirming these words are.

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. Psalm 91:4-7
