TAKE HEART, HE CAN AND WILL

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation.
But take heart; I have overcome the world. John 16:33
This image just grabs at me. I hate that feeling of chaos and tribulation. And, I have so much compassion for someone stuck in it.
It doesn’t take much to land there, in the place of ruin and overwhelm, does it?
In the split of a second something big and disastrous can happen in our once peaceful and intentional life. By sheer force, it destructs every area of our life; tearing us, our homes, our routines, safety, and peace…apart.
Or maybe it’s a slow, creeping in sort of destruction that sneakily goes unnoticed. The kind that we miss, where little incidents of wrongdoing or misfortune seem tolerable and truly quite typical, so we move on as best we can. Until one day…they all pile up, bringing us to a halt unable to move through the mess.
The point is, these places of chaos and destruction only bring us down if we allow it.
We have power over it all.
We have the omniscient one…He knows when we are getting off course, ignoring too much, or setting ourselves up for failure. And, He will tell us and direct us if we listen. He is watching as the storms rolls in-waiting to protect us and move us into safety and peace. But do we go under his shield of protection or do we wait it out, to see if we can handle it alone?
He overcomes the world EVERY TIME. Look at history, look at the written word, time and time again we get caught in the destruction of our own doing and time and time again he raises us up and clears a path for us. If we choose Him…When we choose Him.
So today’s message is a bit opposite of how I like to coach.
It’s reactive, for us to lean into and remember, during those times when we are in over our head.
See God doesn’t ask us to succeed in our faith journey…He asked us to be faithful so we can journey successfully.
He knows we will land in our own man-made messes, that we will have hardships and he will be there for us every time…Able to overcome it all…Every time.
His need, is that WE CHOOSE HIM…
That we CHOOSE Him…
That we choose him.
Sure, our goal should be to avoid these messes all together. God gives us so much to help us there too (the Bible, wise counsel, the Holy Spirit…) But it is nothing short of human to end up here on our own doing time and again.
Today, I want us to do what we can to not get stuck in the ruin. If you find yourself in a place of slowly building chaos…or if you’ve been sideswiped by an alarming force of destruction choose HIM and let faith lead you out into a peace that supersedes the messes of this world.
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation.
But take heart; I have overcome the world. John 16:33
