Today's 'Work On It Wednesday' post is all about carefully looking back upon our steps to help us know where we have slipped up, where we need to be careful, and when we need to call on God for help.

Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure. Proverbs 4:26

While helping others goal set and plan, I encourage them to not just work at being 'good and disciplined' but to note when we are slipping up. There is so much to gain from this self-evaluating insight.  It isn't always enough for us to simply turn away from sin or setbacks. We need to study ourselves so we know when to turn away, and how to call on God to set us up for success. We shouldn't be looking to the world for the 'perfect' philosophy on how to best handle our lives. We should consider God's Word when we are evaluating our steps- this is where real and whole insight comes from. The kind of truth that propels us into success! I have asked two individuals to help with a new healthy living plan I have been working on for a few months. Both are middle-aged, a woman and man with weight loss goals ranging from 20 pounds to around 50 pounds. We first self-evaluated, I focussed on where they carried their weight, why they wanted to lose weight, how they have done on past diets, what those diets were, and we got them set on a good plan that was specific to them. The thing is, I did a lot of educating with them and they each started off with new insight as to how to achieve success. We set them up with tools that would help them and I made sure they knew how to use them. We made a plan for accountability, that included reflection. AND, although all of the before mentioned is crucial, I know it is the self-evaluating God partnered reflection that is what is making the difference in these healthy living goals. Each individual has lost around 10 pounds, in around one month. Each of them have been quite disciplined and quite positive, almost shocked in their success. The numbers do not lie so it has at times been disheartening to see a set back recorded in black and white numbers on the scale. That is when we do the God-centered self-evaluating. We look at who God designed them to be, what their steps were that resulted in the setback, and how they relate to their life and God's call for their life, and then we adjust their plans for success. Coaching Tip for today... (God's will in ALL our steps)

-Plan your steps in a way you feel is partnered and pleasing to God.

-Assess your current steps to see where you may need help from God.

-Reevaluate your steps each day and with each win or set back- but do this with the all praises, goals, and/or setbacks being measured to that of God's desires for you and your effectiveness of carrying out His will for you.
