WHO ARE YOU DANCING WITH?
This is a screenshot of me dancing in my kitchen. One of my girls videoed me dancing away to one of Lauren Daigles heart-pumping songs several years ago. However, it is a regular occurrence in our home to find me swinging around in the kitchen or living room. Today I wonder how mindful I am of my dancing around town, in other states when I speak, or in another country, as I serve through the internet waves.
How freely do we allow others to see our joyful exuberance for HIM?
So when I ask you who might you be dancing with, you might be thinking, "No one, I'm not dancing. In fact, I'm sitting here reading your blog." You might not even like dancing, or think you're a horrible dancer. But, I'm here to tell you that... YOU-ARE-A-DANCER. That we are all doing a slow, fast, precarious, somber, exuberant dance, throughout all our days. That having God in our life is a dance unto itself. We step in line, fall behind, lead, melt into, push away from, and dance with God each and every day.Now, the rather disappointing thing is we can also dance with the devil.
Without even knowing it we can be tempted with a smooth voice, sly twist or turn... or a daring dip. We all fall prey to it at times and I want us to know of its harm so we will carefully choose our partner. But today, we will simply be aware of Satan's desire to fill our dance card. And rather, put our energy toward the Lord. We are a reflection of our beliefs. An example to those watching, regardless of who we choose to follow, others are waiting to follow suit.So be mindful of who you chose to dance with.
Have you ever noticed how when a band plays, it isn't until that first person steps out onto the floor that the others follow suit? And also, how contagious a free-hearted joy-filled dance is. It almost doesn't matter the quality or skill of one's moves. They simply feel the pull and before they know it their energy and passion ignites a multitude. (I wonder how often we dance with God unintentionally and how often we do it with a seeking passion?)And David danced before the Lord with all his might. And David was wearing a linen ephod. 15 So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting and with the sound of the horn. 2 Samuel 6:14-22
I love this story of David from the Bible. In an attempt, to make a long wonderful story short... David was elated and satisfied with getting the ark and covenant of God settled. He had been rejoicing with all the people and the common practice was to equally rejoice and bless your home. Davids zeal, dancing, and worship for the Lord were met with disdain from his wife. When he got home she scolded him, accusing him of showing off but truth be told her heart wasn't in a 'right' place with God. She knew not, and wanted to put David in his place. But David knew where his passion was rooted, that his outward expression and dancing was his way of worshiping... offered out of humble, and honorable faithfulness to his loving dance partner... THE LORD. As I read this whole story I find three interesting traits of David which allow him to be impervious to falling prey to an attack, scorning or even a challenge from someone key in his life, about his love and glory displayed outwardly for God. He showed honor: See how the verse says... 'It was before the Lord.' David knew in his heart that he was dancing to and for the Lord...not for a show. Those with him witness this reverence which spoke volumes. They knew that David's dance showed honor to the Lord.How boldly do I, do we, show honor to the Lord?
He was humble: David danced even though this was not normal for his position in those times, that it would have been below him. But he couldn't help it. He humbled himself and joined in the worship whole-heartedly for the Lord and to his glory.Do I (you) humble myself enough to fully go into wholehearted worship?
He doubted not: It is when we do bold things, things that seem outside of the world's standards that really give God's glory an opportunity to shine. Being bold in our worship and love for God may cause some grief. It's hard to prepare for but we will have times where our community, nation, or even home will attempt to scorn us... But we shall stay fixed on the eyes of our dance partner... OUR LORD. The creator of heaven and earth, all things seen and unseen. We shall worship to him and for him... and others will follow.Do I (you) keep my eyes fixed on God and His cause over the worlds?
Jeremiah 31: 12-13 They will come and shout for joy on the heights of Zion; they will rejoice in the bounty of the LORD— the grain, the new wine and the olive oil, the young of the flocks and herds. They will be like a well-watered garden, and they will sorrow no more. Then young women will dance and be glad, young men and old as well. I will turn their mourning into gladness; I will give them comfort and joy instead of sorrow.
So today's blog is an invitation to dance with the Lord. Fall in line, hear the angels sing, sway to the beat of the drum and wholeheartedly dance with your savior.Faith Infused Living...Reaches Goals Higher! Niccie Kliegl CLC, RN
