OUR HOUSE THIS CHRISTMAS

I interviewed the most wonderful man on my talk show yesterday. (I’ll be sharing that episode next week.) He is a preacher from the south who inspired me to take a deeper look at Christmas this year and to not be too quick to lose heart with our country and it’s commercialism of the holiday.

Now don’t get me wrong, he and most Christians find it disheartening to see all the glorifying holiday cheer that actually has nothing to do with Christ. There may not be a lot we can do about the world’s views on Christmas, so today’s blog is to get my mind, our minds, focussed on what we can do in our very homes.

Tonight, I just want to inspire us to hold fast to CHRISTmas cheer as WE know it. There is nothing wrong with beautifully decorated trees, Christmas lights, carols, gifts, and inviting company into our homes…unless it is all void of the true meaning of Christmas. I decided to do a search for the most popular Bible verses used at Christmas time and then turned them into a prayer with hopes to keep the spirit of Christmas right in my heart, mind, and soul throughout this holiday season.

I hope you enjoy it,

A Christmas Prayer

Glory-Glory to God, our father, the most high, offering peace and goodwill to us all.
(Luke 2:14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.)

This Christmas, keep my eye’s fixed on you Lord, Christ Jesus. Keep me quick to share how you were born, in the City of David, a miracle we must never forget.
(Luke 2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.)

Keep it deep in my heart the truth of your love being for us, unfailing, and with no conditions. This love so great that you sent Jesus, to wipe away my sins.
(1 John 4:10
This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.)

And most of all Lord Jesus, there are no words… thank you… for dying… for me, a sinner, with nothing to offer but my wholehearted love, acceptance, and honor.
(Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.)

This Christmas help me to enjoy the beautiful Christmas trees and lights, but not without thinking of you Lord, the light of the world.
J
ohn 8:12 I Am the Light of the World 12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Help me offer gifts with a joyful heart, while also sharing the true gift of Christmas, Jesus, and our eternal life.
(2 Corinthians 9:7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.)

And help me to embrace the opportunity to welcome friends and family into our home but to do so while putting away concerns of presentation and appearances over the importance of love and service.
(Joshua 24:15 But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”)

All Glory and Honor to you, Lord Jesus. Amen.
