Memorial Day- I Settle In With Such Honor And Respect

American Flags

If Respect, Then Respect… If Honor, Then Honor

Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor. Romans 13:7

At 6:15 this morning the sun was shining brightly as I drove to teach Piyo class. It seemed every flag jumped out at me and I felt a stirring of respect and honor. Respect and honor for those lost lives while protecting us, people they did not even know. Respect for their families who selflessly remain here as their loved one goes off to truly give their life… for us. I felt honor, humbling honor, at the mere notion of my life, being one that has been, is, and will be guarded by these great men and women. AND SO IS YOURS.

The image you see in this post is just down the block from my home. The Boy Scouts had just finished lining the park with these flags. (Troup # 208 Orange City & Alton, Iowa). This is what inspired my post. How do we raise these honorable men and women who grow to serve our nation and its citizens? Part of me thinks it is just born in them, they are pulled to it from a very young age. But I also see and know of families who make great efforts to raise such honorable and respectful individuals.

The Boy Scouts still remain, after all these years. Girls Scouts too. I used to lead the Girl Scouts when my daughters were young. This morning I thought about these great programs that remain after all these years for children, and just how important it is to train up our children wisely. (Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.)

Today I simply feel grateful for parents who raise up these young men and women, for our Military seniors, and for those we have sadly lost.

The Military have given us all so much. They show us respect and honor each day, as they train and take care of us… SO WE RESPECT IN RETURN.

They show us a great honor by sacrificing their time, energy, and often personal relationships for us to enjoy ours… SO WE HONOR IN RETURN.
