Hosanna Hosanna! He Has Come To Save!

It’s Palm Sunday, one week before Easter, and we are reminded of Jesus’ triumphant entry into the city of Jerusalem. Here are a few things I want to touch on during this joyful time.
WHAT DOES THE ‘WORD’ SAY?
Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John all share this Palm Sunday story. We learn that Jesus went in peace and salvation. He is at this time met with such regard, yet he arrives on a donkey. The people use palm branches and their garments to give respect and to welcome his way. They are shouting Hosanna which shows such awesome glory, yet Jesus arrives humbly, acknowledging this coming is not about him and his greatness as a man- but rather his arrival is about the greatness of the KINGDOM of God. HOSANNA!
They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, “Hosanna!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Blessed is the king of Israel!” John 12:13
Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. Zechariah 9:9 (This is an Old Testament prophecy told hundreds of years before this day)
WHAT ABOUT HIM ARRIVING ON A DONKEY AND NOT ARMED?
It is an example of him coming in peace and selflessness. Jesus was also not escorted by anyone armed. There are a few things to point out. First, by all measure, one would expect such a leader to come in worldly greatness. Although the donkey was significant in many Bible stories (the donkey speaking through God and with Mary carrying baby Jesus as his life began)…this donkey is even borrowed. Again his arrival has nothing to do with Jesus and his greatness alone. This arrival is about THE KINGDOM, THE KINGDOM, THE KINGDOM… HOSANNA, HOSANNA, HOSANNA.
HOW QUICKLY THINGS CHANGE.
To me, this part of our faith is so telling. There is such insight to seeing his joyous welcome, praise, and hope…so quickly turns to persecution and judgment. This, like so much of the Bible, is a story we need to learn from and be grateful for. We are joyous! WE ARE SAVED! We celebrate Easter shouting HOSANNA but we must keep this chorus running through our heart, mind, and soul until the day he comes again!
Let’s joyfully praise our saved faith and place in the kingdom. Let us know the truth and wait expectantly for the return. Let us never grow weary with doubt – adopting the confusion the world will and does provide. We are the chosen people.
We are chosen people…
‘… just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him In love.’ Ephesians 1:4
Look what the chosen are called to do…
So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. Colossians 3:12-17
Let’s sing praises, wait expectantly, AND NEVER LOSE FAITH!
