Be a Heart that Strives to Be Like the Perfect One

Why do we compare ourselves to others? It really is rather silly, because the truth is, there will always be someone slightly more amazing than we are and slightly more messed up. So much of this comparing is done by worldly standards, and what good is that? It often leaves us feeling like we don’t measure up, or worse yet, a little greater than thou. Let’s face it: None of us can compare to God and Jesus, who is the only one we should use as a reference point in the first place. That’s the ironic thing. To Him, it isn’t about our house, job, or perfectly mowed yard. His sight is fixed on the amount of passion we have for being more like Him.

This is the purpose for today’s blog. Put away all question of how well you are doing compared to your perfect neighbor. Or how well you wish you were doing but just can’t seem to perform perfectly enough. Where we land on the perfection scale is of true concern to only one — and it is not your neighbor.

Let’s just strive to do God’s work each day, confess our shortcomings each night, and then do all we can to move on, leaving the past in the past. We need to forget about trying to be perfect! All it does is allow darkness and judgment in. We simply need to focus our mind, heart, and soul on becoming a little more Christ-like each day and forgetting the rest.

Life is not about being perfect! It is about having a heart that strives to be like the Perfect One asks.

You were taught that, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth. Ephesians 4:22-24
