Comparison Kills
Not that we dare to classify or compare ourselves with some of those who are commending themselves. But when they measure themselves by one another and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding. 2 Corinthians 10:12 ESV
My heart goes out today with a request for help with the very common toxin of comparing ourselves with others. Believe me, if you battle this sometimes, you are not alone. When the world makes a common phrase for a common problem, we should take note.
Are you keeping up with the Jones? Is the grass greener on the other side?
I don’t want a single one of us to fall into this worldly trap. We are running our own race. And I want your race deeply partnered with God. So He is helping you all along. Can you imagine a better helper, teacher, encourager, challenger? The list goes on and on. God want’s you succeeding…and there are two big reasons why. HE LOVES YOU AND WANTS GOOD FOR YOU. You do not need to earn this approval, unlike the worlds. You do not need to be perfect in your own skin- you never will be so let’s get over that notion. We will be made perfect through Christ though. Living in Christ is a beautiful freeing place. Sure we must still lug around these sinful bodies. But we have free will. And we can step into Christ. Here is where we will feel His love restore us, gain God’s strength, learn from the Spirit. Here you will excel. AND in this place, the glory will NOT BE OR FEEL that it is your own.
HE WANTS OUR HELP. Yep, that is right. Of course, God made talents in each of us. Of course, He made them unique to us. Because He knows everything and knows what we, all of His children, need to do HIS work. Yep. We are not here to just aimlessly walk around. We are here to love and serve. So figuring out how we are supposed to be doing this is our goal. This drive pushes us. We can feel a loss of contentment, even while doing good work. Baffling right? But it is just a fact. GOD MADE YOU WITH A GIFT TO REACH HIS PEOPLE. He loves watching us figure it out, hearing us call on Him for help with it, labor joyfully as we work it, and of course, shout thanks of praise as we achieve in it.
