God’s Timing

He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. Acts 1:7
It can be pretty difficult waiting for the right time. When will God lead me to my future husband or wife? When will THE door open that leads me to the job God really wants me in? When will I get out of debt, or when will my child ‘find their way?’
These are all wonderful things that surely God wants for you. But in this Bible verse, we are taught more than just knowing things are done in God’s timing.
Have you ever had it where you went to create something, and your plan was to have it done by a certain date? I am thinking of my sister and brother-in-law who painted their house this summer. WE are work horses. We set a goal and we accomplish, it is in our blood. But inevitably it became clear this goal would be more than painting alone. There ended up being much more scraping, patching, electrical obstacles to work around, ladders that weren’t quite big enough and so on for us to work through this task.
Acts 1:7 is about more than simply trusting and waiting for the alarm to sound, chiming that it-is-time. This verse speaks of authority. There is something about this verse that I need to embed into my heart so I will remember it as I push through new tasks. Sure I may push hard to accomplish a task, but is it really my place- to be pushing the time?
‘…It is fixed by the Father.’
Yikes, so then if it is fixed, do we simply sit back and wait? Well no, the house wouldn’t get painted that way, the child wouldn’t get reared, the interview for your God-appointed job wouldn’t take place, and the paycheck to pay off debt wouldn’t come if we just sit back.
So, let’s think hard on God’s omniscience. He knows it all. He knows all the setbacks, and roadblocks we will come up against as we reach for and work the plans we feel He has for us… There is a peace to this and it has to do with…. CONTROL.
This is the beauty of it all. Our frustration comes when we ‘wake up’ before the alarm goes off. We get impatient ‘laying there’ waiting. But I encourage you to set another alarm. And another if needed. Keep redirecting your mind toward the peace that comes in knowing God’s timing is perfect. Work hard at your plan for today. And joyfully, as working for the Lord, wait on His authority… He IS in control, so let HIM be… He knows when
