Let Him

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you, the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. Numbers 6:24-26

This verse is one of my absolute favorites. It takes me back to my childhood pastor. In his booming and passionate voice, he would raise up his hands to us all and infuse a bit of the Holy Spirit straight into me as these words sank into my soul.

The thing that stood out to me was how my pastor used the word “may” before reciting these verses, a common link, and some versions include it. By him starting the verse with ‘may’ I understood that God’s already done His part in giving me all this, but I needed to do my part by ALLOWING these gifts to work in me and live in me. Try hearing the verse broken down like this…

May the Lord BLESS you…
May the Lord KEEP you…
May the Lord SHINE upon you…
May the Lord be GRACIOUS unto you…
May the Lord life up His countenance upon you and give you PEACE.

Today, let the words of these three verses sink into our soul–God’s done HIS great work in you, and you do your part by letting all that He provides live and grow deeply within you!
